摘要：
The iron and steel industry is a major CO₂ emitter, and Nordic countries are rapidly shifting toward fossil-free steelmaking. This presentation highlights the current landscape, key initiatives, and future outlook for decarbonizing the sector in Sweden and Finland. The region produces about 5 million tonnes of steel annually, mainly via scrap based EAFs and a few BF-BOF sites using high-grade iron ore pellets, all of which are planned to close by 2030. Projects like HYBRIT, Stegra, and Blastr are advancing hydrogen-based DRI combined with EAFs, supported by renewable electricity and high-grade iron ore. New low-carbon steel plants in Boden, Luleå, Oxelösund, Raahe, and Inkoo are expected to increase capacity by 7.5 million tonnes per year. Despite strong progress, challenges such as electricity supply, skilled labor shortages, and infrastructure upgrades remain. Research efforts continue in areas like biocarbon use in EAFs, waste heat recovery, and slag valorization. The Nordic model demonstrates how strategic innovation and resource alignment can drive the global transition to green steel.
报告人简介：
Senior researcher, Research leader for recycling and environment in Metallurgy department of Swerim AB, Sweden. Dr. Wang also holds an appointment as adjunct professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden.
With more than 20 years of experience, Dr. Wang specializes in resource efficiency, recycling, and the circular economy. His expertise extends to the utilization of biomass residues in metallurgical processes, energy efficiency optimization, and the reduction of CO₂ emissions in the iron and steel industry. Dr. Wang has led numerous research initiatives as Principal Investigator, and has been actively involved in a wide range of projects funded by the European Union, as well as regional and national funding agencies.
